SJR Vineyard Syrah
-
The 2022 Syrah was co-fermented with 7% Viognier. Twenty-five percent whole clusters were used, and it was matured in 25% new French oak. It has an arresting perfume of blueberry, violet, salami, star anise, milk chocolate and pepper, and it continues to reveal additional aromatic nuances as it opens in the glass. The full-bodied palate features deeply concentrated flavors, seamlessly integrated oak spice and a velvety texture. It’s balanced by mouthwatering acidity, and it has a very long, layered finish. It should be long lived in the cellar.

A 50% whole cluster ferment, with 8.7% Viognier? I'm in Syrah heaven. Blackberries and boysenberries hit first, along with aromas of bacon fat and smoky Hojicha green tea. The wine's dominant flavor is blackberry, with espresso, clove and bison jerky joining in the fun. There's brilliant acidity here, with muscular tannins. Drink 2024–2039. — Michael Alberty
